I got three price quotes from Young's Paving company. The three quotes is how they do business, it gives a person of options instead of being bound by a single quote.
When they show up, they mean business. They remeasure, talk to the homeowner about the work they are going to do, then they get down to it with no attempt to drag it out to waste time.
In about 4 hours they had deconstructed my old driveway, enlarged it, laid down the gravel, and leveled then compacted it. When that was finished, the dump arrived with my driveway in the back of it.
The asphalt was laid by hand, leveled, and compacted with an eye of having any water which will collect on the driveway, roll away from my house.
I expressed that I didn't want any crowning where the center of the driveway is higher than the sides, which in many cases; the center becomes the thinnest piece of asphalt and the weakest.
Young's paving assured me that it is not their business practice to do crowning; consequently the edges of the driveway were formed straight and compacted too, whereas it gives it a clean look.
All the members of the paving team work efficiently with little down time. I found them to be a friendly bunch of guys, not once did they try treat me like a nuisance as I watched them work, but I also didn't get in their way either as they worked quickly with great synergy.
In the end, I had a tear out and a new asphalt driveway installed in about 4 hours, it was time well spent. The cost was less than I thought I would pay for the work.
